Having BMW problems? Need BMW service in Fort Lauderdale, or just want to make sure that your engine is in good condition? Only a BMW diagnostic can tell you exactly what’s wrong with your engine.
But if you’re just looking to make sure that you don’t have a major engine problem, or want to know what to look out for to ensure you know when to take your car into a BMW performance shop, we’re here to help. Here are some top engine trouble signs and warnings for BMWs.
1. The Check Engine Light
Alright – this may not come as a shock. If your check engine light is illuminated, you need to check your engine! Warning lights don’t come on for no reason. Sure, the issue could be minor, like a failed O2 sensor, but it could also be warning you about engine misfires, blow-by, or another serious engine problem.
2. Strange Odors Or Noises In The Cabin
You know what your car should sound like, and you know that you shouldn’t be smelling gas, oil, sweet coolant, or any other strange smell in the cabin. So use your ears and use your nose. If you hear something strange, like grinding, “slapping” or “knocking” sounds, or smell something that’s out-of-place, you should probably take your car in for a BMW diagnostic test.
3. Engine “Running Rough” Or Idling High
If your engine is pulling, jerking, surging or stalling, or otherwise running rough, this is a sure sign that something is wrong. It may also idle rough, or idle at a higher RPM than is normal. These are all signs that something is wrong – and while the issue could be minor, immediate attention is the best way to make sure you don’t ignore a serious mechanical issue.
4. Loss Of Power Or Fuel Efficiency
Is your BMW M3 not chewing up the highway onramps like it used to? Has your gas mileage plunged? This could indicate that there is a serious issue like a loss of engine compression or a failed head gasket, or that your fuel pump or injectors are faulty.
5. Fluids On The Floor
The fluids in your car are supposed to stay in your car. If you notice oil, coolant, or any other kind of mysterious fluid on the floor of your garage or after you park on the street, you could have a leak in your engine, or in another critical system component. Either way, it’s time for a service and diagnostic test, and to get the issue fixed. If you ignore fluid leaks – particularly a BMW oil leak – you could be risking catastrophic engine failure.
