Land Rover Fluid Checks and Changes Near Miami, Fort Lauderdale, FL

If you want to keep your Land Rover in great shape, regular maintenance is critical. Few maintenance considerations are as important as fluid checks and changes, though. Virtually every fluid has a direct impact on operability, efficiency, and even safety. What should you know about Land Rover fluid checks and changes in Fort Lauderdale?

What Fluids Are Important to Check?

All fluids are important to check. You should do so once per month, as well. What are the fluids in question, though? Unless you’re a mechanic yourself, chances are good that you’re not all that familiar with what’s under the hood of your Land Rover. We’ll discuss what you need to know below.

Oil: Oil is the lifeblood of your engine. If it gets low or you fail to change it when necessary, it can result in engine damage, lost power, reduced efficiency, and more. If the situation becomes severe, it could even destroy the engine. We recommend you check your oil at least once per month, but more frequently if you have a higher mileage vehicle.

Power Steering Fluid: Your power steering system uses fluid to help you turn the steering wheel, but the steering rack can develop leaks over time. Check the level monthly to ensure that it stays at the right level.

Brake Fluid: Brake fluid provides the pressure necessary to clamp the brake pads against the rotor. It’s normal for the fluid level to decline as the pads wear – do not top off your brake fluid without first replacing the pads. Otherwise, when the pads are replaced, the resulting back-flow of fluid into the reservoir could cause it to overflow.

Coolant: Engine coolant helps prevent your engine from overheating. It should be checked once per month or so. However, never check it when the engine is hot. Wait until it has cooled. Make sure that if you need to top off, you use the right type of coolant for your Land Rover.

Transmission Fluid: Transmission fluid does the same thing as oil – it lubricates, protects, and cools. Check your transmission fluid once per month. Note that some transmissions do not have dipsticks and must be checked from below.

Windshield Washer Fluid: This one isn’t important for what it does for the engine, but it can help make it safer to drive by allowing you to clean dirt and debris off your windshield. Check this monthly and top off as needed.
