Your Land Rover is more than capable – it can handle all-terrain driving with aplomb, but it’s also aesthetically pleasing, as at home on the interstate as off-road. However, for all that power and poise, it still requires some specific maintenance to stay in good condition. One overlooked requirement is Land Rover transmission service. What should Fort Lauderdale area residents know?
Transmission fluid serves a similar purpose to engine oil. That is, it lubricates moving parts, prevents friction, and helps to cool components. It also serves other purposes. Hydraulic pressure is used to activate certain components, allowing your transmission to shift up and down as necessary.
Fort Lauderdale area residents will need to have their transmission fluid changed periodically. Like engine oil, it degrades through normal usage because of exposure to high temperatures. Metal shavings called “fines” also build up in the fluid, a legacy of gears contacting one another and wearing away over time. Those fines can eventually block up the filter and even narrow or close fluid passages. The only way to deal with them is to drain the transmission fluid out and replace it.
In addition to changing the fluid periodically, it is important to check it regularly. We recommend once per month just to keep an eye on it. If the fluid level is low, you may notice that the transmission does not shift properly, and it may even lead to serious damage.
Not sure how to check your transmission fluid? The team at Euromotive can do it for you. We provide a multi-point inspection with every service, from oil changes to major scheduled services so that you always know the condition of your vehicle and can make informed decisions about its maintenance.
Land Rover mandates a different transmission fluid service schedule for different models. On average, you should have your fluid changed every 50,000 to 100,000 miles. However, it is important to monitor the fluid level and condition at all times to prevent damage and to catch potential problems before they become costly issues.
At Euromotive, we will first inspect the transmission for signs of leaks. We’ll also inspect the rest of your vehicle for any issues that should be addressed. Then we’ll drain the oil fluid out, change the transmission filter (if applicable), and refill the transmission with fresh fluid. We even test drive it to make sure that everything is as it should be.
